Volunteer Co-Leader – Writers Group

Willie Schatz has been on the professional-track faculty at the University of Maryland, College Park, since 1999. As a member of Department of English Language and Literature in the College of Arts and Humanities, he has taught journalism, business writing, technical writing, and legal writing. In 2001 he joined the Professional Writing Program, in which the courses teach the research, analysis, writing, and language skills that students will need in their lives beyond the classroom.

Willie served a two-year term as president of the Washington DC Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) and has presented seminars on freelancing to regional meetings of the SPJ. His colleagues have recognized Willie’s journalistic prowess with one Computer Press Association News Story of the Year award and two Jesse H. Neal Awards for Editorial Excellence. Willie has published two research papers for Transnational Data Reports, a global communications consulting firm.
