Homeless Women’s Health: From Mental to Menstrual and all the Care In Between

June 3rd, 2017 | 1-3 pm
The Church of the Epiphany, 1317 G St. NW 20005

On a typical summer night in Washington D.C. there are around 1,200 women and families without shelter, and only 313 shelter beds in the city for women and girls. Women also suffer from a lack of basic healthcare access to meet their uniquely feminine needs. They often become homeless when fleeing domestic and sexual violence, only to find it common on the streets. Homeless women also have significant daily obstacles that include finding basic supplies for menstruation and incontinence, child care and family planning, mental health and addiction support, and disease screenings. This forum highlights the nearly insurmountable difficulties facing women experiencing homelessness in the nation’s capital.
